‘We can’t win this game’ – O’Connell after Italy defeat to France

A lot of good will went into Italy’s defeat against France on Tuesday, but it was not enough to take home the trophy.

There were some great moments and goals from Italy but it is hard to be confident about the future, according to Giorgio Chiellini.

“We can only imagine how it will be like for Italy after the defeat,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s not easy to win a European Cup in a season like this and that is something we can only expect.”

The Italian’s team were never really in the mood for a victory, however, as they were forced into a difficult third-round tie with France.

The outcome was decided by a late penalty from Thibaut Courtois as the visitors’ hopes were dashed.

“We played well and deserved to win, but that was not the case today,” Chielli said.

Chiellinis side have now dropped into the second tier of Serie A, having dropped out of the Champions League, where they had qualified.

It was the latest blow for the Serie A leaders, who have had an average league position of just one point so far this season.

O’Connell, who was a key figure in Italy’s recent successes, said it would be difficult to see any improvement in their current form.

“The result against France is a real blow to the team,” he said.

“This team is struggling and it’s not always easy to get results.”

I don’t know what will happen after the next match but the results have been bad and I think we will have to play more and more matches to get to where we need to be.”

It wasn’t enough to beat France.
